7th European Conference on African Studies, Basel
June 29 @ 8:00 am - July 1 @ 5:00 pm
The 7th European conference on African Studies will in 2017 look into the entanglements of the rural with the urban in Africa.
Against the assumption of a rural character of the continent, still prevalent in most research fields, this conference aims at exploring the connections, ruptures and controversies around processes of urbanization of nature all over the continent.
Looking specifically at what African studies can tell us about this rural-urban dichotomy, the conference will also explore the advancement of other research channels, and put into perspective Europe’s knowledge production over Africa on that matter.
The call for panels will run until 30 September. Panels will be of maximum 5 participants. The conference is organized by the Centre for African studies Basel -which recently created a new Master programme for Critical Urbanism in cooperation with the University of Cape Town and the Swiss Society for African Studies.
The conference will be held from 29 June to 1 July 2017 in Basel, Switzerland.
