Organised by the Malian Ministry of Culture and Institut français, the Bamako Encounters is the foremost international platform dedicated to contemporary photography and new images in Africa. A sustainable platform for discovery, exchanges and interaction, the Bamako Encounters are known as a meeting place for African photographers and other art professionals from across the world.
The Executive Director of the Bamako Encounters is Samuel Sidibe, Director of the National Museum of Mali.
Cultural consultant and independent curator, Marie-Ann Yemsi, will curate the 11th Edition of the Bamako Encounters, which takes place from 2 December 2017 to 31 January 2018.
The Pan-African exhibition, curated by Marie-Ann Yemsi, will take place at the National Museum of Mali. This exhibition is at the heart of the biennial entitled “Afrotopia”.
The call for applications is open to photographers and video artists from Africa and its Diasporas.
