“City Portrait. Johannesburg” fits into a cycle of other City Portraits, international conferences organized by the School of Doctorate Studies, Università Iuav di Venezia.
The goals of this City Portrait are to provide a wide range of viewpoints, to investigate the current transformations of the “city into being”, and to attempt a better understanding of its coming evolutions in the post-apartheid era upon an interdisciplinary basis, which ranges from the urban planning, historical and contemporary architectural issues to arts, design and cultural policies.
PhD candidates, researchers coming from diverse areas (such as universities, public authorities, NGOs) and practitioners who have developed original studies, theoretical frameworks or projects, and instruments on the “city of extremes” linked with one or more of the following four sessions, are invited to submit their contributions in the forms of papers, presentations, photo-reportages and/or videos.
