The Global Urban Innovators initiative selects the top 15 most innovative startups and social enterprises that use technology to tackle the biggest urban challenges of our time. This program is specially designed to identify pioneering urban innovations and to help scale their project globally while creating a lasting community of the world’s top urban innovators.

The Project Timeline:The global call for applications will launch on Monday, November 16. Applications will close on December 23rd, 2015, and our selection of the 2016 Global Urban Innovators will be announced in
February 2016.

The Global Urban Innovators initiative is part of our mission to shape a better urban future for all. We choose Global Urban Innovators for their radically new approach to transforming and improving cities.

Global Urban Innovators benefit from an exceptional program to help them achieve their goals, including:

  • Mentorship
  • Privileged access to the New Cities Foundation network
  • Global media exposure

We leverage our unparalleled access in the urban sector to:

  • Scale Global Urban Innovators’ projects globally
  • Give innovators an international voice as change-makers
  • Build a diverse ecosystem of actors to foster innovation at the urban scale

We are looking for cutting edge startups and social enterprises that use technology to address urban challenges in our four focus areas: Urban Mobility, Urban Infrastructure & Services, Health & Wellness and Placemaking.

To be selected, your projects must:

  • Have demonstrable urban applications
  • Leverage the power of technology
  • Have completed a pilot or prototype with tangible results
  • Be radically innovative
  • Show potential to scale
  • Be less than five years old
