Deadline: 29 February 2016 - 12:00am
Where: Stellenbosch University, South Africa
Conveners: Ronnie Donaldson
Project Title: On the metropolitan periphery- Secondary city poverty traps and public transport linkages
Context: Within city regions of South Africa, the inter-relationships between place of origin and transport are dynamic and complex. Transport is critical to urban inclusion, determining access to employment and services, and it is often favoured by governments for investment due to its high degree of visibility. There is little comparable research on its governance, poverty impact and capacity to reduce the perversities of metropolitan peripheral living in the two secondary cities of Stellenbosch and Paarl.
Host: The appointee will work under the supervision of Prof Ronnie Donaldson, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.
Requirements: A PhD (must have graduated within the last five years) in transport geography is mandatory, and familiarity with transport planning in South Africa is highly recommended.
Bursary amount: R200 000 (Note: Postdoctoral research fellows are not eligible for employee benefits since they are registered as research fellows and their bursaries are awarded tax free.)
Commencement of duties: July 1, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter for one year.
Enquiries: Send a letter of application, accompanied by a CV and the names and contact details of at least two referees to Ronnie Donaldson (firstname.lastname@example.org).Read older posts from this section
